What is hypnosis?

Despite many misconceptions, hypnosis is actually a very helpful tool from which people can significantly benefit. Hypnosis, or hypnotherapy, is a therapeutic tool that relies on a trance state to produce change. This change may be in your thinking, emotions and/or behavior. Hypnosis relies on your imagination, focused attention and suggestibility. With the assistance of a hypnotherapist, you are guided into a trance-like state in which you are given specific suggestions to help you solve a problem. Individuals vary on the depth of trance they experience; however, most can benefit from hypnosis. You may want to overcome a phobia, reduce your stress, lessen pain, improve your mood, or enhance your sports performance.

What happens during a hypnosis session?

Cheryl has used hypnosis to help many people with psychological and health issues. When you first meet with her, she will talk to you about your specific concern. She will educate you on hypnosis and answer any questions you have. She will collaboratively develop a plan with you to address your issue. When you feel comfortable and ready, she will begin the process. You should feel relaxed throughout hypnosis. You will be in control and will never be asked to do anything that you are not comfortable doing. Afterward, you will discuss how the process went for you. Hypnosis may be useful as a standalone treatment or combined with other therapies.
